Book Cover Design

For this project we were asked to design a contemporary book cover for a books design that had since become outdated. I chose to do animal farm. I used nails, a found wooden box, a found horseshoe and dyes to create this book case and book jacket with the use of photography for the front cover.

Photography

For my black and white photography folio I focused on playing around with good and playing around with the concept of innerchild in mind . I wanted to capture the emotions with the notion of being covered in food.I poured cream, spaghetti and flour on duncan, edwina and matthew.

Entrance to MOMO

Top image is by Gilsavage who creates her own feltidermy. The middle image is a piece designed by Kathy Temin. I was influenced by both these pieces when I created the entrance to my exhibition on taxidermy.I mimicked the panels that girlsavage used in the construction of her rabbit. I also used zippers, stuffing and fake fur to realistic mock-up of what the entry would look like at full size.

Illustration

This is detailed sketch of weird botany flora. I gain a lot of my inspiration from Audrey Beardsley. His delicate yet bold drawings always aim to capture my imagination as I love to mess around with ink.

Stationary Design

For this project in graphic design studio this semester, we were asked to design an identity for the Museum of Modern Oddities showcasing whatever we wished. I chose to showcase taxidermy. I began my design by sketching over skeletons i found on the the internet. I then used pen to create the filled in deer. I then layered the two over the top of eachother to give it depth. For my logo I used the ribcage of the deer to form the abbreviation MOMO. I particularly enjoyed the illustrative techniques used on the man-deer. This design is avaliable on t-shirts at Tbar. I love drawing in penand looking at contemporary illustrators is a great way to get started.

Typographic Video

For my text video I used the opening lyrics from Kasabian's track 'West Ryder Silver Bullet'. I thought the spoken lyrics by a woman at the beginning were quite evocative and poetic. I gained inspiration from many sources. Like Citizens Cope http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAuQmJzt_q0 along with a typographic digital rendition of Nina Simone's Feeling Good. I enjoyed the old school film technique used in the video clip. I tried to utilise this in my own work. I used other effects that were useful such as Wiggle, Mr Mercury and Drizzle. I used all these techniques to communicate a frenzied, insane mind, the flashing of the background indicating a badly lit room, something creepy like that from a mental asylum.

Visual Frictions 3

For this attempt at the brief, I wanted to create my 'clones'. I gained inspiration from attending David Harradines forum 'Photoshop on Fire' around 3-4 years ago where he went to explain the technique. I used masks and limited burning and dodging. As long as you take the photos on a tripod its very easy to blend to create an illusion that looks really convincing.
